laptop not working?
okay my parents laptop crapped the bed sometime yesterday and you cant do anything..(they have a dell with windows xp service pack 2).i have tried starting up in safemode and when i tried to open control panel or anthing else it will say stuff like watson debugging has encountered a problem and so fourth and it will keep changing to who ever has encountered a problem.and in reg mode you cant do anything but move the mouse around you cant even open start menu..they share our LAN connection for my home computer(and my comp is running fine)so i was thinking of just re installing windows on their laptop but i have never had to do it so i was wondering how easy it is(i know they will lose everything) and do i have to install anything else,as in they two CD'sone for operating system and one for drivers and utilities..thanks in advance
You might try System Restore first.

Never block the cooling fans or vents, because laptops especially need every bit of air flow they can get. Look at the fan and vents. Are they full of dust? Get a can of compressed air from an office supply store or computer store, and blow the dust out.
If you reinstall the Operating System, you will lose all data on the drive unless you can move needed data to another partition on the drive, if you already have one.
If you have the original OS and drivers CDs for that computer you should have no trouble reinstalling the operating system. Just be sure to install virus protection and update it, before you go online to update the OS and drivers once they have been installed.
You must have CD drive as first boot device in BIOS, so that you can do a fresh install of the OS or to run the Restore disc.
I hope this helped.
Good luck.

i always prefer to use brushless cooling fans because they last longer and needs less maintennance:’`
